The digitised wallet platform managed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), DigiLocker, is enhancing its features with the inclusion of the UMANG app. This integration is designed to allow users to conveniently access and manage a range of government services, including personal and official documents, all in one place. While presently exclusive to Android devices, plans for its future availability on iOS have been confirmed.
The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) has revealed the collaboration between the UMANG app and DigiLocker. According to MeitY, this initiative aims to streamline interactions with governmental resources. Users can now utilize services pertaining to AADHAAR, PAN, EPFO, certificates, pensions, utilities, public complaints, health and wellness, travel, and a variety of others.
MeitY expressed that DigiLocker has consistently led the way in simplifying the accessibility of personal and official documents. With the UMANG integration, the platform now offers an expanded list of services that can be accessed seamlessly.
This functionality is presently accessible solely on the Android version of the DigiLocker app due to the absence of the UMANG app on iOS devices. However, MeitY is working on making it accessible on iOS in the near future. Confirmations from staff members have verified that UMANG app functionalities are operational within DigiLocker.
In recent developments, Indian Railways has linked its recruitment portal with DigiLocker. This initiative is aimed at significantly shortening the recruitment timeline, bringing it down from 18-24 months to a remarkable six months. The entire document verification procedure is now reportedly conducted through DigiLocker, and appointment letters, along with medical checks, will also be processed digitally via the platform.
