The upcoming Stellar Blade for Switch 2 is designed to hit 60 frames per second, yet a notable compromise exists. The game is set to launch this autumn in a Complete Edition that bundles both DLC expansions and features exclusive to the Switch 2 version. A trailer dedicated to the console version has already sparked discussions about how the game may perform on Nintendo’s hybrid platform.

The Korean developer Shift Up provided further insight during an interview with Nintendo Everything. The game will display enhanced visuals by running at 1080p When connected to its dock, the device operates at full resolution, whereas it runs at 720p when used in handheld mode while targeting 60 frames per second. The process to achieve these standards involves a creative blend of available upscaling and frame interpolation methods.

  • The team targeted 60 frames per second in both handheld and docked modes.
  • They employed Nvidia’s upscaling technology to enhance the visuals.
  • They adapted AMD's frame interpolation technique to finish the conversion to 60 FPS, starting from a base output of 30 FPS for balanced latency.

Technical director DongKi Lee explained that the approach involved initially producing an even 30-frame output per second and then applying frame interpolation from AMD’s solution to fill in the gaps. While this intricate method succeeds in meeting the graphical and performance targets, it may introduce a slight delay in responsiveness compared to the gameplay experience on PCs or current-generation consoles—a nuance "that might not be well-received by all players.".

Although an exact release date for Stellar Blade: Complete Edition remains under wraps, expectations lean toward an autumn 2026 debut. With the game already having attained its age rating, further details may emerge during the rumored upcoming Nintendo Direct event.
